The Benefits of Using Natural Gas in Your Home

We depend upon a number of different utilities in order to lead our lives and to be as comfortable as possible. These utilities may include electric, water and sewer but in over 50% of households in the United States, natural gas is also utilized. It is an efficient, clean and safe choice when compared to other types of energy and as long as you familiarize yourself with any potential dangers that could occur, you will be able to use this regularly without any problem.

Like any type of utility, it is possible for problems to occur when you are using natural gas. One of the issues that can occur is for a buildup of carbon monoxide to take place. Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that can make you sick or in serious cases, can even kill you. That is why it is important for you to ensure that the furnace that you are using is burning it properly. You should also ensure that it is vented properly, as that will help to avoid the buildup of gas which could be dangerous.

Keep an eye on your appliances and if any problems occur, be sure that you contact the utility company as soon as possible. It is also important for you to have the right types of accessories available when you're using natural gas. You should familiarize yourself with the system and know where the natural gas shut off valve is located.

You should also employ the use of gas leak detectors in your home or place of business. Although there is an artificial scent included with natural gas which will help to alert you of any leak that may exist, those leak detectors are going to discover it much more quickly. Although it is unlikely to occur, you do want to be as safe as possible in case it becomes an issue. If you do have any type of leak in the area, regardless of whether it is found by your detector or if you smell gas, it's important for you to contact emergency services right away.

Don't try to fix the problem on your own, emergency services in your area are able to take care of the problem professionally. If you discover any type of a natural gas leak outside of your home or place of business, you should either contact the utilities company or emergency medical services right away. By all means, if a leak is suspected, don't use any open flame or smoke cigarettes in the area and do not turn any electrical appliances on or off because that could spark and lead to more problems.

When used properly, natural gas is going to provide you with what you need for the comfort of your family. Just make sure that all of the appliances that use natural gas are up-to-date and continue to monitor for any problems that may exist. Even though it is unlikely that any issues are going to occur, familiarity with the system is going to make it even less likely that there will be a problem.

The Importance Of Natural Gas Companies

The most common and conventional places where natural gas is produced is in gas and oilfields. There are non-conventional sources also, such as coalfields. However, the estimation is that conventional sources produce about 94% of the existing natural gas. Two thirds of the production is accounted to gas wells and the rest of the production comes from oil wells. The estimation of the total output of the world reaches about 95 trillion cubic feet of gas, which is supposed to last for more than 60 years.

Due to the common places where we can find gas sources, the countries that have the greatest natural gas resources are also the ones with the most significant oilfields. Iran, Russia and other Mid-eastern countries have the largest fields, but natural gas sources are also existent in countries that are oil-deficient like Australia, Argentina and Mexico. The US accounts for about 20% of the production. Natural gas companies produce gas from inland and offshore wells.

The production of natural gas in the US is concentrated in the lower 48 states. The largest producer of gas is Texas, and the largest producing field is the San Juan Basin. The total number of wells in the US is about 393 thousand. Texas has the greatest number of wells, approximately 68 thousand, but Missouri, Arizona, Nevada and Maryland include a rather negligible number of wells.

Natural gas companies have enhanced their production through new drilling technologies and the estimation of the extraction losses now reaches 3 percent of the production. Hampering of the production can occur due to weather conditions. Hurricanes are the most feared, because they can stop production in offshore fields and lead to the destruction of the transmission pipelines.

One unfortunate incident occurred due to the hurricane Katrina, which disrupted the supply of natural gas. Natural gas companies play a very important role in the economy of the US. Kinder Morgan Interstate Gas Transmission is one of these companies. The activities of KMIGT consist of processing, exchange, transportation and storage of natural gas. The states in which this company performs one or more operations are Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Wyoming. Kinder Morgan Trailblaizer Pipeline Company, a subsidiary of KMIGT, owns Kinder Morgan Pipeline.

This pipeline system is 436 miles long and starts from Colorado, crosses through Southeastern Wyoming to Beatrice. The Kinder Morgan Pipeline provides natural gas from Rocky Mountain for the markets that seek natural gas in the Midwest and on the East Coast. A useful tool for someone involved in drilling gas, exploration of gas, or anything related to gas production is a map. This will offer tremendous help in understanding utilization within the nation's interstate pipeline system.

You can find a map book that contains all the interstate pipelines in the US, including the Kinder Morgan Pipeline, here, on rexstrategies.com. The first of its kind, this portable guide offers detailed and accurate maps. Other aspects this guide help you understand major receipts and delivery points, flow directions on mainlines, system capacity and utilization.

It also explains the transportation pricing breaks across the labeled pricing zones. For someone who works with or for natural gas companies, features of this guide that may be useful are the total capacity, owners, operators and the total amount of miles of pipeline, the numbers of compressors and the horsepower of each, and others.
